Before this post starts getting hate comments. Let me tell you that I’m not an Atheist. This post is not undermining or accusing or defaming any religion.

It’s a simple question that needs to be thought out coolly, calmly and with an open mind. This question occurred to me when I posted a comment on a news website. a simple opinion which invited a few very legitimate replies and a few very stupid replies and a few replies were simply attempts to agitate me for posting my view, but there was one common thing about all of these replies. All of them had a  religious perspective to them, when my comment wasn’t remotely related to religion at all.

The news article was about ‘France arresting women for wearing the veil’. There were many comments cheering about this, there were many comments lashing at the French administration for this new rule. It was published on an Indian News website, so all the comments ‘in support’ were of a certain religion and all the comments that were ‘against’ this article were of a certain other religion it’s quite obvious. Articles like this always invite religious wars on the comments section, and so did this. Funnily, the arguments concluded to Indian religious issues that started as a piece of  International information.

But what really got me, is that they take a non religious comment, and make it a religious argument.

My comment was about the way in which the government is enforcing something on the people. I don’t want to get down to why should or should not the government ban something. The French administration has it’s reasons to do what they want to do. but what I objected on was the way they are enforcing it. Banning something usually promotes rebellion. Does a banned book ever sell?… My point exactly.

If something should be done, it can be done in a peaceful way where free-will still holds water. By banning, they may have to endure rebellion, force doesn’t work, if you ‘really’ want to get something done.

This view of mine was taken in a religious tone. A conclusion of the replies I got was ‘If I don’t agree to what the french are doing, then I’m of a certain religion, hence I’m a terrorist who wants the veil, so that terrorists can do what they want without getting identified.’ Which brings me back to my question.

Does religion make people short sighted?
